History

The History of Schark Heating & Cooling Inc. is one that currently spans nearly 7 decades and 4 generations of Schark’s.

Beginning in 1954, Henry Schark started doing business under the name, Henry Schark Heating Service, and later Henry Schark Heating Service & Repair, out of his home on Maple Street in Saginaw, Mi. At that time, he performed service work and installed Kalamazoo brand furnaces.

In 1962, Henry moved from the home on Maple Street to a new house on S. Center Road and somewhere around that time he also began selling, installing, and servicing Heil Quaker furnaces.

Sometime between 1962 and 1969, Henry changed the name to Henry Schark & Son Heating & Air Conditioning, and as the name implies, brought his son Don into the business and also began installing and servicing air conditioning.

In 1969, Henry handed down the business to his son Don, and the business moved from Henry's Center Road home to Dons’ home on Swan Creek Road. Dons’ sons, Don and Dave, began working with their dad around the same time, followed shortly by the youngest son, Jeff. This is also the time period that Schark began selling the Ruud & Rheem line of furnaces along with Heil.

In 1989, shortly after picking up the Amana brand of high-quality heating and air conditioning products, Dons’ son Dave takes over the reigns of the fast-growing company. Dave and his wife, Mary Ann, move the business into its first official, brick and mortar storefront, at 5954 Swan Creek Road, and Mary Ann takes over the rigors of day-to-day business and scheduling, a position she still enjoys today.

In 1997, Schark Heating & Cooling incorporates!

In 2001, Mary and her son David, who has worked in the company since 1994, take over the company. Growth continues with new product lines and expanded services. The Ruud and Rheem brands had been replaced entirely by the Amana and Heil product lines.

In 2019, the company continues to grow and add services and made the decision to uproot from the long-used location on Swan Creek Road and purchased a building, closer to the action, on Miller Road just off of M-46. Renovations began on the new location and a long-awaited grand re-re-re opening will take place in the very near future, where the next chapter of the Schark Heating & Cooling Inc. story begins!
